About Flux 2

Flux, developed by Black Forest Labs (BFL), is the newest challenger in the AI image generation space, founded by the original creators of Stable Diffusion who left Stability AI to build their next-generation model. Released in August 2024, Flux immediately demonstrated state-of-the-art image quality that rivals and often surpasses Midjourney and DALL·E 3.

Flux operates with a multi-tier model family: Flux.1 Schnell (fast, open-source), Flux.1 Dev (higher quality, research license), and Flux.1 Pro (commercial, highest quality). API pricing is competitive, ranging from $0.003 per image for Schnell to $0.055 per image for Pro at standard resolution. The models are widely available through third-party platforms including Replicate, Together.ai, and fal.ai.

Flux's image quality has rapidly earned it a reputation for exceptional photorealism, accurate text rendering, and strong prompt adherence. The model particularly excels at human anatomy, hand rendering (a notorious weakness of AI models), and complex scene composition. The open-source Schnell model runs efficiently on consumer hardware, making it accessible for local deployment.

Being from the Stable Diffusion lineage, Flux benefits from rapid community adoption. LoRA fine-tuning, ControlNet adaptations, and integration with ComfyUI workflows are already well-established. For developers and commercial users, the Pro model offers excellent quality-to-cost ratio via API. The main limitation is the absence of a polished consumer-facing web app — BFL focuses on providing the model rather than an end-user platform.
